Samsung R355c Review
I know everyone and their dog have posted a response to this Samsung R355C, but I just want to type out a list of pros and cons that I have found. I have had the phone for about 2 weeks. (PS- this blog is amazing and really helped me to make an educated decision on what phone I was going to buy.)
PROS:
- Navigation buttons are great/easy to press
- Quick response in menu mode (switches quickly among the menu options)
- With the micro SD card, I can set my own songs as ringtones
- If I set my own pic (from my SD card) as a background image, the phone automatically sets the pic in the right dimensions (maintains aspect ratio, and there isn’t a file size limit)
- Calendar button on keypad (no multiple keystrokes from menu)
- You press and HOLD for camera and speaker phone (I love this because so many times I would accidentally hit the button)
- Holds nice. Nice tapering of back cover
- Looks like my roommate’s Blackberry, but at a much cooler price
- Good size, nice weight
- CHEAP! (I’m on the All You Need plan)
- Coming from the LG VX8300, I really appreciate the fact that when I have the calendar or alarm clock on, the icons don’t take up a huge amount of space on the home page
CONS:
- Only 160 characters allowed for texts and memo pad entries
- Only one menu setup/display/color scheme (orange)
- Only one text font size. When I’m scanning my inbox to see my text messages, since the font is so big, I can only see two inbox texts in one screen shot
- Music player has customizable views, but only one background color (purple)
- Up to only 10 contacts can be in a contact group
- 10 seconds is the minimum time for the backlight display (I would want it to be shorter, but it depends on the person)
- One big thing for me is I can’t change what is displayed on the home screen except for the wallpaper pic. (The time is displayed twice and it says “Home”, which is basically unavoidable on any TracFone phone.)
- The navigating of my photos from my Micro SD card is a little slow
- And the last thing is when I go to view a pic in my folder full size, it doesn’t take up the whole screen, so I can’t see details.
But, all in all, I feel I have upgraded sufficiently and am very prideful of my phone and how it looks like a Blackberry without the high bill. Thanks Blog!!
Great phone!, February 24, 2011
I have had this phone for about 4 months and absolutely love it. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of 5 is that this model does not do any video at all; I can’t watch videos on Youtube, take videos, or receive them. Other than that, this phone does everything I need it to do, talk, text, mobile web, mp3′s (with micro sd card) and the quality of the music rivals my iPod, and the camera takes surprisingly good pictures. I get coverage in about 99% of all areas I’ve been in; the Straight talk phones run off of Verizon’s coverage areas and is owned in part by Tracfone wireless, the coverage is amazing. The price plans for Straight talk are the lowest on the market, $30 a month for 1000 voice minutes, 1000 text messages, and 30 Mb of mobile web, which comes out to about 40 hours of web use, or the unlimited everything plan, even mobile web, costs only $45 a month….that’s it, no hidden fees or any of that sneaky tax stuff other cell companies stick you with.
I got a black rubberized cover for my phone, which I could only find on Amazon, and the phone is still small enough to fit in a back pocket. The small keys are easy to get used to and the clarity of voice calls is perfect. Charging time is quick and it holds a charge for a long time, several days.
Great phone and I absolutely love it, and with Straight Talk’s low prices, I am never going back to a regular phone contract again!
Excellent Phone!, May 21, 2011
Samsung R355c looks like a Blackberry and is cool. This phone will do everything you need– from fast texting to web surfing. It has crystal clear voice reception. I have never seen a phone that holds a charge as well as these Samsung R355C models. The charge lasts for ten days or more!Probably the best phone someone can buy for less than $125.00. The best part is that it runs on the Verizon network via Straight Talk. Never a dropped call, this is about as good as it gets, and the prices for monthly service is the best in the world, no one can beat it.
